This segment will focus on coping skills when you are feeling sad, blah, or bored. Being able to identify and validate feelings and understand what a feeling looks like is important. As well as being able to teach children that parents have feelings too. Learning that feelings can be expressed by identifying and validating them. It will focus on copings skills and what to do when we feel sad, blah, or bored. This segment approaches what it’s like when we are sad and what types of coping skills we can use. It uses a gentle twist with a marshmallow and how to cheer up the marshmallow who suddenly feels sad and blah. An important lesson here is that this book teaches how important it is for children to learn what feelings look like when we are sad, blah, or bored and how to use coping skills to cheer up. Some of the coping skills used in the segment are, flips, giggles, lemonade, the beach, and a painting. Building emotional literacy and attachment building with parent and child is crucial. Emotional foundation building, emotional literacy, and family connection on what feelings look like and coping skills are huge takeaways here.
